Well it has now become official after a few years of going through this shit each and every NFL Sunday. The NFL owners unanimously approved the new national anthem policy which will require all players and personnel on the field to stand. However if they do not wish to stand during the anthem they will be given the choice to remain in the locker room for the duration.
Can we all agree this is best for all parties involved? This allows the proper respect to be given to the flag and our great country but also allows anyone who doesnt agree with certain things at the time to not partake in it. In all honesty its a common ground we can all settle on even if you dont agree with the position of someone one way or another. Give the NFL credit though for this and for a few reasons.
First it allows the NFL to be in the news with this breaking story and on every major sports hub for the next few days and weeks with this. After all any publicity is good publicity. Secondly any backlash that could potentially come will die down by the time the season starts and after the first week or two it wont be spoke of anymore. For years now it has been topics every NFL Sunday of which team and players will kneel for the anthem and it took away from the on the field play, ratings, and merchandise sales which hurt the owners pockets and thats where it mattered most so the change had to come and it had to come now.
The NFL owners have put a stop on what could have led to lost sponsorships, ad revenue, ticket sales, tv ratings and merchandise sales for another season and if anyone is surprised by the fact it happened sooner rather then later obviously you have never been in the business to make money. The owners have made a decision and this decision assures them that this topic doesnt make it past week 2 of the NFL regular season and then its business as normal.
