You don’t often see this in playoff hockey I must say that. In the Eastern Conference Finals both teams lose there first two home games and the series is tied at two games a piece. Last night the atmosphere inside the arena in Washington was electric and within 6 minutes it doubled after Dimitri Orlov gave the Caps and early 1-0 lead. That lead didn’t last long however as Tampa Bay tied it up a short time later on a goal by Brayden Point. About 3 minutes later Steven Stamkos scored on the power play for a fourth straight game to make it 2-1.
The second period belonged to the Caps and it showed by the only goal being scored by Evgeny Kuznetsov which gave him his 10th of the playoffs and notched the game at 2. With the crowd in it you almost felt like this was Washington’s game for the taking and that they were gonna be poised for the Stanley Cup after all these years. Introduce Alex Killorn
Killorn scored just seconds after a Tampa power play had expired from another Lars Eller penalty. Eller had cost the Capitals on Stamkos power play goal after he was called for a hold in the neutral zone seconds earlier. When Killorn tallied the goal the air seem to leave the fans in the arena and with the Lightning playing disciplined hockey in the third period they were able to stave off the Caps and seal the game with 2 seconds left with an empty netter.
Cause for concern in Washington is growing as the Caps have blown a commanding 2-0 series lead to now flying to Tampa with a tied series an home ice advantage in the Lightnings favor. Frustration boiled over at the end of the game as Alex Ovechkin was noticeably upset breaking his stick over the crossbar and cursing into the camera. Safe to say most of the fans across the D.C. area were saying those same 4 letter words.
