Police are investigating the discovery of a body at the home of New York Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins in Fair Lawn, New Jersey. The body was identified as Roosevelt Rene, 25, a Jenkins family friend who had been living at the house, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office. The prosecutor’s office said, “The manner of death will be determined by the Bergen County Medical Examiner’s Office after a post-mortem exam.”
Police are said to be treating this as a homicide investigation. Jenkins is aware of the investigation and has been in Florida since the completion of Giants mini camp two weeks ago. Jenkins has been advised by his lawyers to remain in Florida while the investigation is going on.
The Giants have to be thinking What the Fuck. Off the field incidents have not been kind to them in recent memory and usually leads to disastrous seasons. Lets look back at the Plaxico Burress incident where he shot himself in a nightclub. The distraction that held over the team was huge and in my opinion derailed what could have been a legitimate chance of them repeating as Super Bowl champions. The Giants finished 8-8 and missed the playoffs.
Jason Pierre-Paul became the distraction for the Giants a few years ago when he had a fireworks mishap and ended up having his right index finger amputated as a result. I remember this being the talk of the NFL off season as everyone wanted to see pictures and experts saying he would never be the same again. The Giants finished 6-10 that year and again missed the playoffs.
Now we have Janoris Jenkins and this off seasons distraction to keep the New York media much a buzz. This season Giants fans had something to get excited about with Saquon Barkley coming to town and now this investigation will be dominating the New York newspapers. What a shame!
