Well……were a little more then a quarter way through the NFL regular season and we have had some highs and lows to kick off the season. Every year we have a few teams that get all the hype and every year a few of them dont live up to it. Lets explore the Cleveland Browns and see what grade they get so far.
Cleveland was this years darling team to say it mildly. I mean how couldnt they be? They had OBJ come to town, Landry reunited with his college teammate, Chubb gets to start at running back and less we forget Baker Mayfield gets to start the season for the first time in his career. Ill be honest im a Steelers fan and even I was pulling for them in some early games but everyone realized real quickly this may have been a new look Browns offense but the same old woes seem to have snake bitten them early on in the season. OBJ is getting strangled on the field, except for one game Landry has been absent and is now recovering from a concussion. Mayfield has been awful and in the games ive watched he looks impatient and scared feet in the pocket. Baker seems to be scared to take a hit and stand in the pocket and the result is his timing with his wide outs is off. Baker needs to get in the film room and show his offensive line that they need to get him at least one more second to stand confidently in the pocket and not look like he is gonna dish it off to the first option every time.
Nick Chubb on the other hand has exceeded my expectations early. He has been a welcome relief from the woeful passing game thus far this season and has even improved on his blocking and pass catching. With Kareem Hunt do back in a few weeks that should help the offense a little more and allow a change of pace back and different schemes for the Browns to show defenses but the real question is will it be too little too late?
